To clarify some ideas related to our Advance Organizer. I seem to recall discussion about using the metaphor of going a journey to set the context of our instructional materials; I would like to proceed with this idea but wanted to clarify that this is accepted by my team? The example in the appendix may help clarify if necessary.

If we do use this metaphor, I would suggest that we adjust the sequencing of our topics as well. I recommend that we switch objectives 3 and 4. Putting myself in the position of a person embarking on a journey I would first want to know where I was going and understand the climate so that I pack what is necessary to be adequately prepared. Second, I would be curious about the food; my first stop, when traveling, is usually the market to check out unique edible treats ;) Then, I would start thinking about what I would like to do when I get there, consider my recreational options.

Thus, our unit would be structured as follows:

1) Demonstrates ability to communicate with classmates by making a minimum of 3 individual postings and 3 replies to other’s postings in the online discussion forum.
2) Completes a dialogue describing how to greet an individual in Canada
3)
Identifies weather conditions for each of the 4 seasons on Vancouver Island and recalls average seasonal temperatures and precipitation
4) Recognizes a wide variety of foods eaten in British Columbia and selects a typical breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack
5)Identifies recreational activities enjoyed by residents of British Columbia
